Heather Sample was born in May 1978 and raised in Ashland, Ohio, with deep roots on King Road where her grandparents lived. She attended Ashland City Schools from kindergarten through her 1996 graduation from Ashland Senior High, and the community that shaped her then is the same one she fights for today.
After returning to Ohio in 2016, Heather rebuilt her life in Mansfield and went to work alongside attorneys practicing civil litigation, domestic relations, family law, and criminal defense. For nearly a decade, she has been the steady hand inside law offices that serve people during the hardest moments of their lives. She currently works for a criminal defense practice that serves eight courts across the region and recently expanded with a new associate attorney.
In 2017, she married the man she had known since elementary school, and together they are raising a blended family of four. The bond she shares with her husband and their children is, in her words, one that cannot be broken.
Heather's commitment to public service is rooted in lived experience. She helped care for her great-grandfather. She walked beside her mother through treatment at the Mayo Clinic and a stage 4 cancer diagnosis until her passing in 2015. She has navigated her own health challenges. And throughout, her father has been a constant presence, the kind of family support every Ohioan deserves access to. These experiences sharpened her understanding of what working families face when illness, caregiving, and uncertainty arrive all at once.
Her civic work followed naturally from her values. She served as Vice President of the Ashland County Democratic Women's Club, worked on Tamie Wilson's congressional campaign for Ohio's 4th District, and ran for Ashland City Council Ward 2. In January 2024, she was sworn in as Chair of the Ashland County Democratic Party.
Today, Heather is running for State Representative in Ohio's 67th District, covering Ashland and Medina. She is running because the families in her community deserve a representative who has lived their realities, listened to their struggles, and shown up for them long before asking for their vote.
Heather is focused on the things working families talk about at the kitchen table. Real schools. Real costs. Real freedoms. No corporate noise in between.
